Articulate — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

Articulate is a calm speaking coach. This page explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your voice stays on your phone.

What stays on your phone

  • Audio. The microphone is used to measure your speaking pace while you practise. Speech recognition runs on the device. Recordings you choose to keep are stored on your phone and are never uploaded, including after your progress syncs.
  • Other people. The app never captures audio from anyone else, and it is not a meeting recorder.

What we store in your account

When you sign in (with Apple or Google) we create an account and store:

  • Your sign-in details: email address, name (if the provider shares it), and an account ID.
  • Your practice results: for each session, its date, duration, pace figures, repetition and filler counts, pauses, and the text transcript of what was recognised. Transcripts are stored so you can review a session on any device.
  • Your settings and course progress.
  • Your subscription status, via our subscription provider (below).

We use this only to run the app: syncing your progress and applying your plan. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

AI coaching (optional)

If you ask for AI feedback or a practice conversation, the text involved (for example a transcript and your prompt) is sent through our server to a language-model provider (Anthropic, directly or through OpenRouter) to produce the reply. Audio is never sent. This only happens when you tap a button marked with the sparkle icon.

Usage analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used: which screens are opened, how often the app is opened, and roughly where in the world users are. It does not receive your audio, transcripts, or any speech measurement (pace, repetitions, fillers, pauses). Google Signals and advertising-ID collection are turned off, so this data is not used to build advertising profiles and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Who else handles data

Provider Why
Amazon Web Services Hosts our servers and database
RevenueCat, and Apple / Google Process subscriptions and purchases
Google Firebase Usage analytics (above)
Anthropic, OpenRouter AI coaching replies (above, optional)
Apple / Google Sign-in

Keeping and deleting your data

Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account in the app (Settings), which erases your sessions, transcripts, progress, settings and sign-in identity from our servers. Data on your phone is removed by deleting the app.

When you delete your account, your data is erased from our live database. Backups of that database are kept for up to 35 days and then expire, and server logs are kept for one month.

Not a medical service

Articulate is a coaching tool, not a clinical or medical product, and it does not diagnose or treat any condition. If you have significant difficulty with speech, please see a speech-language pathologist.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes and contact

We will update this page if our practices change, and note the date above. You can delete your account and data yourself at any time from the app's Settings. For other questions, use the support page on our website.
